Timing: Family and/or Children sessions tend to last approximately 60-90 minutes and can be held in numerous locations -- your home, my home studio, or outdoors on location. I primarily use natural light, so outdoor shoots are by far my preference – even in the dead of winter! Travel within 25 miles from my home in Palatine, IL is included. Farther locations will have an up-charge.

Snacks: If your kids are anything like mine, they’re going to need snacks and bribery to get through the photo shoot so feel free to bring some (non-messy preferred). We’ll be doing some walking to get a variety of shots, so having water on hand is also not a bad idea.

What to Wear: One outfit change for the family is welcomed. Be sure to bring along accessories for all outfits – footwear, jewelry, accents, etc. Try to keep your outfits simple. You want your facial expressions and eyes to be the focus of the portrait, not the big words and pictures on your shirt!

There are no rules for color – wear what works best with your complexion and what makes you feel good! For spring and summer, I recommend the following shades: sky blue, pale green, watermelon and yellow. For fall and winter, consider wearing gold, orange, red, dark green or navy.

Final Tips: Don’t overdo it – easy on the make-up, avoid gaudy jewelry, wear your normal, practiced hairdo and avoid over tanning! Men – don’t forget a clean shave. Don’t be too matchy-matchy. Try to have fun and don’t try to be something that you’re not. Lastly – TRUST ME! Don’t worry if your child isn’t looking at me or smiling the “right” way. You’ve hired a seasoned family photographer who knows how to make your family feel comfortable, so let me work the magic and I’ll be sure to deliver the most glorious, candid portraits that will make you smile!
